Daygame

Daygame (also written day game) means meeting and approaching women during the day: on the street, in parks, shops, cafés, libraries or on public transport. It is the counterpart of nightgame, which takes place in bars, clubs and at parties after dark.

How it differs from nightgame

• Setting. Daytime places are quiet and sober. There is no music and no alcohol to help the mood, so the conversation has to carry itself.
• Context. People are usually busy, going somewhere or with their own thoughts. Your approach has to be quick, polite and clear. See direct game.
• Time. Many conversations last only a few minutes. The goal is often to get a number or suggest a coffee soon, since she may need to leave. A false time constraint can keep things relaxed.
• Pace. There are fewer chances but more genuine conversation. You will make fewer approaches in an hour than in a club.
• Follow-up. A good daygame meeting usually becomes a Day 2 or an instant date.

Example

You see a woman reading in a park.

You: “Sorry to interrupt, I only have a minute. You look completely absorbed and I was curious what the book is.” Her: “It’s a crime novel.” You: “Any good? I’m always looking for something for the train.”

If the conversation goes well, you say you have to go but would like to continue over coffee, and ask for her number.

Tips and mistakes

• Respect her situation. If she is in a hurry, wearing headphones or clearly uninterested, a friendly “have a good day” is enough.
• Be honest and brief. Say why you stopped her. A 3-second rule helps you not to talk yourself out of it.

• Mind your tone. Calm and friendly works; pushy persistence does not. “No” ends the conversation.
