Are you guys shy? I’ve been standing here talking to my friend for like 5 minutes now and you still haven’t said ‘hi”.

When to use it

Use it when two women or a small group near you have glanced your way a few times and the place is relaxed, like a party, a café or a bar. Say it with a warm grin. It is a tease, and teasing can sound smug or like a challenge, so skip it if they look uncomfortable or are deep in their own conversation.

Follow-up

If they laugh, go first: "I'll start, I'm Sam." Then ask a simple question. If they say they are not shy, answer "Great, then tell me..." and ask something easy. Do not bring up shyness again. If they say they are busy talking, take it well and leave. Glances are one of the indicators of interest, but not a promise.

Why it works

The question teases about something both sides can laugh at, and it gives them an easy reason to reply. It shows that you are relaxed enough to make the first move.
