Harris O’Malley writes as Dr. NerdLove, and is a US-based dating coach and blogger who aims his advice at geeks and gamers. He has said he had little success with dating before he began researching how to become more charismatic, and he later started the blog Paging Dr. NerdLove.

Work

In 2014 the gaming site Kotaku began running his bi-weekly letters column, Ask Dr. NerdLove. He also runs a YouTube channel and a podcast, and co-hosts the podcast Do As We Say, Not As They Did with Dr. Liz Powell.

Books

His books include Simplified Dating (2015), New Game+: The Geek’s Guide to Love, Sex, & Dating (October 2015) and the online dating guide When Clicks…. He later followed with I Got Her Number, a book on texting and meeting women.

Approach and reception

His advice stresses respect, communication and self-improvement and rejects manipulative tactics. A 2018 podcast interview covered his move from pickup-artist advice to feminism, and the host described his work as an answer to the toxic masculinity of the Red Pill and men’s rights movements.
